Animation : Quai des bulles

I was invited by the Quai des Bulles festival, held in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany), to design a short animated piece for their experimental publication QDB. This ephemeral review, blending zine culture and artistic object, needed a dynamic visual echo to live beyond the page.

Context & Objectives.

The question they asked: Can we make this review move?
I proposed a literal answer: through animation.

The goal was to extend the printed gesture through motion, without betraying the raw, free-spirited nature of the project. This commission was part of a vibrant cultural network linking Saint-MaloRennesDinan, and the wider Ille-et-Vilaine region.

Art Direction & visual approach..

  • Emphasis on expressive typography, contrast, and cut-up visual rhythm
  • Visual language rooted in textures, sudden bursts, and graphic tension

“You can almost hear the paper move.” That spontaneous comment from the team perfectly captured the outcome.

The animation was promoted across the festival social channels. It was later reused in various presentations about the QDB initiative.

Why this project mattered ?

This project was a way to reconcile two things I love: raw graphic materials and concise visual storytelling.

It also taught me how to embrace creative constraint: a short format, a fixed visual framework. And yet, I was able to inject rhythm, breath, and a distinct visual pulse.

Planning a hybrid cultural project ?

Whether you’re running a festival, exhibition, or independent publication, I’m here to help translate your vision into short, impactful animated formats.

I work with cultural actors across Brittany — from Saint-Malo to Rennes, through Dinan and the broader Ille-et-Vilaine territory.
